Maintenance & Insurance

Rates for leased vehicles include all regular maintenance and insurance. Also included are costs for the repair of vehicles, except for those expenses determined to be from accident damage or attributable to the operator. In these cases, repair and cleaning costs or the deductible are charged to the department.

Vehicle Maintenance

To schedule routine maintenance or repairs, contact Garage Operations at 764-2490. Loaner vehicles are provided at no charge (when available) when vehicles are being serviced at our facilities.

Wrecker service is available from 7 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, by phoning 764-2490. For after-hours emergency service, phone the Department of Public Safety at 763-1131.

Should a University vehicle require service or repair when in use out of town, it is highly recommended that pre-approval for the work be obtained from Garage Operations if possible. Reimbursement for emergency repairs and road service is subject to review and approval. Itemized receipts and return of the replaced parts to Garage Operations is required. For work approval, telephone Garage Operations (collect) at (734) 764-2490.

Insurance

The Office of Risk Management insures all University vehicles with a $250 deductible. Questions about insurance coverage and claims should be directed to 764-2200. The Vehicle Ownership Identification (blue card) is the vehicle's registration and proof of insurance. The card may be found in the glove compartment.

Citations

The driver of a University vehicle is responsible for all moving and parking violations incurred while operating the vehicle.

Accidents

In the case of an accident or alleged accident, completion of a Driver's Report of Vehicle Damage or Public Incident (Accident Report) is required. This is in addition to any reports filed by the Department of Public Safety or any police department. Completed forms should be returned to Fleet Services. In the absence of an Accident Report, the full cost of the vehicle damage will be charged to the leasing department.

All repairs must be performed or coordinated by Garage Operations.

Vehicle Replacement

When to replace a vehicle is determined by Fleet Services based on such factors as age, mileage, mechanical condition and physical appearance. Typically, University vehicles are replaced every five years.
