The U-M Police Department (UMPD) is responsible for enforcing University parking regulations. The regulations are in force throughout the calendar year except for:

  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day and the following day
  • Christmas through New Year's Day

Enforced Violations

  • Expired Meters
  • Parked over 48-Hour Legal Limit
  • No Parking Anytime
  • No Stopping or Standing
  • Commercial Vehicle
  • Bus Stop
  • Double Parking
  • Parking Within 15 ft. of Fire Hydrant
  • Parking on Walk
  • Left to Curb
  • Blocking Driveway
  • Blocking Crosswalk
  • Handicapped
  • Parked over 12 Inches from Curb
  • Other (details printed under Remark 1 and Remark 2 on citation)
  • No Permits U-M Lots
  • Motorcycles Only
  • Parked Upon or Across Line
  • No Parking Fire Lane
  • U-M Vehicle Only
  • No Parking in Driveway
  • Snow Removal

Citation Payments

Parking citations may be paid by one of the following options:

  • Pay-by-Web at City of Ann Arbor Parking Ticket Payments. MasterCard and Visa accepted.
  • Send a check payment (payable to the City of Ann Arbor) to:

  • Pay in person at the City of Ann Arbor Customer Service Center located on the first floor of the City Center Building (220 East Huron). Short term metered parking is available along 100 South Fifth Avenue, including two handicap spaces, and in the City Hall parking lot.
  • Payment may be deposited in the Drop Box at the City Hall lobby police front desk (south entrance) or the drive-thru at City Hall off of Ann Street (corner of Ann and Fifth).
  • Pay by phone at 866-890-4982. MasterCard and Visa accepted. Please note when using this payment method, you must pay all of your outstanding citations. The system will not allow you to pick just one citation for payment.

Fine amounts increase after 14 days. Failure to respond within 14 days will result in a default judgment against you and additional costs. Failure to pay a default judgment may result in legal action for collection. Four (4) or more unpaid citations in default may result in:

  • Impoundment of your vehicle
  • Loss of your right to renew your driver's license
  • Issuance of a warrant for your arrest

Citation Appeals

You may appeal a citation by one of the following options:

Enclose the citation, your return address, and a detailed letter thoroughly explaining the situation. A Parking Referee will respond with the appeal decision via US Mail. If the appeal is denied and you are required to pay the citation, additional time will be granted to pay the fee.

  • Parking Referee sessions are held at City Hall, 5th Floor, 301 E. Huron, Ann Arbor MI 48104 as follows:
    Monday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    Tuesday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
    Wednesday 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
    Thursday No Sessions
    Friday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
